James Van Vossel x Theo Eyewear: Press Relations

James Van Vossel

HiLiNES, the latest collection from theo eyewear, plays with light and shadow, a subtle dance of lines that disappear to create depth. Anyone who has ever picked up a pencil knows the principle of shading: by omitting or gently shifting lines, depth, texture, and contrast emerge. HiLiNES marks the tenth collection in the ongoing collaboration between theo eyewear and James Van Vossel, celebrated for his playful interpretations of production techniques and materials. Together, they bring to life a design philosophy where functionality, playfulness, and refinement meet.

James Van Vossel is a versatile Belgian designer driven by a desire to redefine archetypes. Always searching, always questioning, he works with a constant flow of fresh insights. His creations reflect a pursuit of clarity, balance, and functionality, resulting in objects that are both innovative and useful.

Guided by the chosen material, he pushes its boundaries — asking: what could be done just a little differently? His talent for transforming a wide range of materials and forms into distinctive design pieces makes James a true jack-of-all-trades.

Every one of his designs carries a twist — a playful quirk that catches the eye and sets it apart from other pieces. He finds this sharpness by delving deep into the material and approaching it with an open mind.

This approach has led to collaborations with, among others, 37 graden, Deknudt Mirrors, Drisag Office Furniture, Modular Lighting Instruments, Ligne Roset, theo eyewear, and Thonet. He has also worked with textile designer Eef Oost on a series of table linens, and co-founded the felt chair brand Fox & Freeze together with Tom De Vrieze.

PIÈCE LUDIQUE.

In parallel with his beloved “outside-the-box” thinking for brands, James continues his vision with what, for him, represents the pinnacle of design: his own purist label PIÈCE LUDIQUE. A collection of limited and unique editions, handcrafted and driven by a passion for materiality. This new label concept will be unveiled for the first time soon, revealing his strong desire to reconnect with the essence of design: small-scale, authentic, and personal. The debut collection is expected in autumn 2025 and will be presented for the first time in a distinctive setting. The label forms a natural extension of his work for other brands, with the aim of establishing a direct and sincere relationship with the consumer.

“I find it important to be able to think freely and design without restraint every day. If I decide today that I want to design shoes tomorrow, then that’s exactly what I’ll do,”
